Networking and Cabling

Management of the IT department means you take ownership of the network. To be clear, network includes everything from the wall jacks to organization’s ISP demarcation.

Provided that the inventory was thoroughly completed, you know where all the networking cabinets are located. You should now have a floor plan that displays where these cabinets located.

Having a physical layout of the network can be an invaluable tool. Equally if not more important is a logical layout of the network i.e. a network diagram. Diagnosing and troubleshooting networking and connectivity issues can be complicated. A network diagram displaying how data moves through, in and out of your network can save you time, energy and money.

Cyber Security

Cyber Security can be defined as the protection of internet-connected systems, including hardware, software and data, from cyber attacks. Cyber Security consists of securing your information, data and computing environment as well as physical security. We all must participate in protecting ourselves against unauthorized access to our data and computerized systems.

Education

The most important piece of cyber security is education. Take steps to educate yourself, your team and your end user community. Endpoints, workstations, desktops, mobile devices are well known targets of cyber attackers.

I suggest conducting a security class for all new employees to your organization. Perhaps working with your company’s HR department or executive leadership teams, this class can be instituted as a mandatory requirement for employment. If you require assistance with developing and conducting these classes, please do hesitate in contacting www.danntech.net.

Due to the importance of this section, I’m allotting some additional space to outline critical areas of concerns.
